Lantern Hill is a small subdivision in Highlands Ranch located on Wildcat Reserve Parkway, spanning from Timberchase Trail to Rustic Redwood Way. Located in the Southridge part of Highlands Ranch, Lantern Hill is surrounded by the larger Kentley Hills neighborhood on its north, east, and west borders. South, across Wildcat Reserve Parkway, is the huge Firelight subdivision which is populated by some 1,500 homes. To contrast, Lantern Hill’s quiet, winding streets are home to only about 250 homes.

Homes in Lantern Hill were constructed by Joyce Homes from the late 90s into the early 2000s. Although the neighborhood was constructed by a single builder, there is still a lot of variety in the neighborhood homes.  Ranch and 2-story homes predominate in Lantern Hill. Ranch homes are generally around 2,000 to 2,500 square feet, many of which include finished, walkout basements that add another 1,000 square feet. Two-story home sizes can be anywhere between 2,000 to 4,500 square feet, though only about half of these homes have finished and/or walkout basements. Lot sizes in Lantern Hill once again vary widely with options from .15 acres up to .50 acres, with the average lot size being .22 acres. Large houses do not generally correlate to large lots here; a few of the smaller ranch homes actually have lot sizes nearing .40 acres.

With only two entrances off Wildcat Reserve, Lantern Hill’s neighborhood streets maintain a very quiet, exclusive feel. Homes with handsome stone accents and well-groomed lawns line Timberchase Trail which loops through the neighborhood, connecting to Rustic Redwood Way. Short roads like Canyon Crest Lane, Greatwood Court, Rustic Redwood Lane, and others sprout off of these two main roads, ultimately leading to cul-de-sacs nestled deep within the neighborhood. Many of the neighborhood’s larger properties are found in these cul-de-sacs.

While Lantern Hill is not located in the busy sections of Highlands Ranch, next to all the stores and restaurants, schools are still very close and many will find that added atmosphere of privacy that comes with being a little further out is well worth the additional five minutes of driving. Two neighborhood elementary schools, Summit View Elementary and Heritage Elementary, are just a couple of minutes away, located to the northwest and northeast of Lantern Hill in the Kentley Hills subdivision. For older kids, the Mountain Ridge Middle School/Mountain Vista High School campus is just three minutes southwest of the neighborhood on the other side of Wildcat Reserve Parkway.

All schools can also be reached on trails connecting to Lantern Hill if you have a little more time. The Dad Clark Trail running north and south connects to Heritage Elementary, and Dad Clark Park further north. Amenities at Dad Clark Park include sports fields, basketball hoops, playgrounds, an off-leash dog park, and a community garden. West of Dad Clark Park is the Grand View Trail which is great for dog walkers and will eventually lead to Summit View Elementary. Even more activities can be found five minutes away at the Southridge Recreation Center and at Paintbrush Park off of McArthur Ranch Road. The rec center is complete with free weights, nursery, gymnasium, tennis courts, a pool, and a host of other features.
